La Nuvola Gallery in Via Margutta will host a performance by the roman artist Silvio Coiante in the context of his new exhibition “The Tear” on Saturday March 2, 2024 at 6 pm. The performance, curated by Alice Falsaperla, consists in the creation of a large-scale work, ad-hoc with the Gallery's historic rooms.
Silvio Coiante is a contemporary artist, formed between Rome and London, that works also at Cologne that usually works with the technique of papier collé. As the French terminology suggests, it involves the creation of the artwork through the juxtaposition of pieces of paper glued onto a support, also made of paper.
At first, Coiante makes a personal "iconographic journal," drawn from multiple contexts. He draws on his own photographs from the web and history, combining them into a single, impactful and unusual image. Following this collection of images, the artist pass from the digital to the physic by executing a sketch, on paper or canvas, until experimenting with the technique of assemblage, where a figure appears: the digital become mythology, the historical flows into the contemporary.
Paper, first painted, then torn and, finally, superimposed on a wooden frame, becomes the focus of a creation in which sequential layers and tonal contrasts follow one another. Coiante's work seems to alter the idea of traditional figurative representation: instead of representing the forms of the world, the image is composed of "fragments taken from reality” as Alice Falsaperla says. "The tear becomes the interference between the precision and the randomness of the gesture," the artist specifies.
On the occasion of Silvio Coiante's performance, the public will witness in situ the creative process of his works that will be presented along with a selection of his recent works.
